The Assam region of East India is a natural greenhouse. Temperatures can soar well above 100°F (40°C) with humidity levels typically near 100%. As you can imagine these are prime conditions for growing teas as thick and full-bodied as the climate itself.
Most of our Assam teas have a common heritage. They are grown on estates that were once owned by George Williamson, a large British plantation group. Nestled next to the beautiful Brahmaputra River valley, these tea gardens mingle harmoniously with the natural biodiversity of East India.

Our Assam Valley teabags come exclusively from tea estates that participate in the Ethical Tea Partnership. These estates have excellent track records of labor ethics and environmental stewardship. When the Williamson company sold their holdings, they left behind the legacy of sustainable environmental practices and social infrastructure including schools and medical clinics. Considered very forward thinking in the 70s and 80s, their legacy continues today.
