The Perfect Cup of Darjeeling

Darjeeling is a light tea with a distinctive flavor.

Steep your teabag 2-4 minutes in boiling water.

Add milk or sugar to taste.

Darjeeling Iced

Darjeeling also makes a terrific iced tea.

Steep six teabags in 2 cups of boiling water for about 5 minutes.

Pour the mixture over ice, then add 2 quarts of cool water.

Note: High quality teas will sometimes have a cloudy appearance in iced tea form due to high antioxidant levels not found in grocery store tea. Don't worry the cloudiness is good for you.

Darjeeling Teabags from India

Darjeeling is to premium tea what champagne is to fine wines. The region is located high in the Himalayas at an average altitude of more than 2 kilometers above sea level. The Darjeeling region produces light liquoring teas with a regional character known as Muscatel.

Happy Valley Tea Estate in Darjeeling

The Darjeeling region became popular among early British tea plantations. At a high elevation, averaging nearly 7,000 feet, Darjeeling has a relatively temperate climate. British residents would escape the intense summer heat by traveling to this region known as the "Summer Capital".

Darjeeling Tea from IndiaThe tea plantations date back to the mid 19th century as part of British development of the area. The tea growers of the area developed distinctive hybrids of black tea and fermenting techniques, with many blends considered among the world's finest.

Darjeeling is also famous for its Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. The railway connected the town of Darjeeling, capital of the district, with the Indian Plains. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1999 and has one of the few steam locomotives still in service in India.

When properly brewed, Darjeeling tea yields a thin-bodied, light-colored liquor with a floral aroma. The flavor also displays a tinge of astringent tannic characteristics, and a musky spiciness often referred to by tea connoisseurs as "muscatel." A sweet cooling aftertaste should be felt in the mouth.
